7.1 magnitude earthquake rattles China as six injured & homes collapse | World | News
Chinese authorities say six people were injured and dozens of homes destroyed after a huge 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled the western part of the country.
More than 120 homes were reportedly damaged during the quake on Tuesday. The government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region posted on its official Weibo account that two were seriously injured and four had minor injuries.
Authorities say 47 houses collapsed while a further 78 were damaged. Some agricultural buildings are also said to have been damaged.
The magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Uchturpan county, called Wushi county in Mandarin, in Aksu prefecture shortly after 2am local time, the China Earthquake Networks Center said. Around 200 rescuers were dispatched to the epicenter, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
