Badenoch endorses UK suspension of UN aid over alleged attacks on Israel | UK | News

Britain’s suspension of funding to a UN aid agency where staff are suspected of attacking Israel is “quite right”, said Kemi Badenoch.

The Business Secretary described the allegations against workers in Gaza as “extremely serious”.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency has sacked several employees over claims they may have taken part in the Hamas invasion.

Eight countries, including the UK, have now suspended their funding.

UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres warned that the reduced support for the UNRWA would affect more than two million Palestinians in Gaza as soon as next month.

The UK Foreign Office said Britain was “appalled” by the allegations against the agency and has halted funding as an inquiry takes place.

Mrs Badenoch said: “It’s quite right that we suspend payments, this is absolutely the right thing to do.

“There is clearly a problem with the UN’s Relief and Works Agency – and it is important that we do something about that.”
