Beautiful journey in Australia is one of the world’s best road trips | Travel News | Travel

Dreaming of an epic road trip holiday? While Europe has some incredible routes, Australia might be home to the world’s most iconic road trip.

The Great Ocean Road is searched by around 60,000 travellers a month, according to research from the Compare the Market team.

Famed as one of the world’s most beautiful ocean drives, the route is on many travellers’ bucket lists.

It takes around nine hours to drive the full route but experts recommend spending three days on the Great Ocean Road.

From beaches to natural wonders, drivers will see some incredible scenery on Australia’s best road trip route.

The much-photographed Twelve Apostles are one of the route’s highlights. The breathtaking limestone stacks loom out of the water.

There are currently only eight of the Apostles left standing so tourists will need to book soon if they want a chance of seeing the remaining stacks.

Great Otway National Park is another fantastic stop along the Great Ocean Road. Tourists can pick one of several hiking trails to explore the park’s rainforests, waterfalls and beaches.

It’d be impossible to drive the Great Ocean Road without factoring in several beach spots at some of Australia’s most stunning spots.

Bells Beach is one of the region’s top surfing destinations while Lorne’s wide sandy beach is the perfect spot for a walk.

Port Campbell is a small bay but it’s usually safe for swimming, making it a great spot to cool off after a long drive.

Lorne is towards the middle of the Great Ocean Road, making it a great place to stop along the route.

Other popular stopping points along the way are Torquay, Apollo Bay and Port Campbell, each of which has several accommodation options for tourists.

Tourists renting a car should take photos of the vehicle before driving away so they have a record of any existing damage.
