The review platform’s Travellers’ Choice Awards celebrate the best of travel as voted for by tourists around the globe.
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, was named as the world’s best destination for food, beating out other popular destinations such as Rome and Florence.
A Tripadvisor spokesperson said: “The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside.
“Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or ‘ascending dragon’ but it hasn’t forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest.”
So what delicacies will tourists be eating in Hanoi?
Vietnam’s street food is world-renowned and tourists will be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a meal in the bustling capital.
Pho, a type of noodle soup, is served all over Vietnam but the Hanoi variety is generally made with rice noodles and beef.
Cha ca is one of Hanoi’s don’t miss dishes. The fish is cooked in turmeric and then topped with dill and herbs.
It’s usually served with vermicelli rice noodles and it’s a dish that’s primarily served in Hanoi rather than in other parts of Vietnam.
Bun cha is a noodle and pork dish. The meat is served in a patty shape which diners then dip into a sauce.
Vietnam’s coffee is world-famous and tourists shouldn’t miss out on trying Hanoi’s iconic egg coffee.
