Europe’s top ‘soft travel’ spots have beautiful surroundings and no tourists | Travel News | Travel
The holiday park company Eurocamp has shared the growing social media trend of ‘soft travel’ and some of the world’s best destinations to experience it.
Trending on platforms such as TikTok, soft travel is when travellers purposefully avoid the most popular locations that are designed with tourists in mind.
Karen Williams, travel expert at Eurocamp, noted that soft travel can help tourists avoid massive crowds and learn a little about the culture of a new destination.
She explained: “Soft travel encourages holidaymakers to travel more mindfully, and can ultimately help you get to know a place better, make memories, and build a stronger emotional bond to your holiday destinations.
“Not only that, but it can actually save you money, by getting more out of visiting lesser known places and learning which tourists traps to avoid.”
Helping tourists find the best location for a soft travel getaway, Eurocamp suggested those wishing to learn more about a different culture should visit their Le Val de Durance camp in Cadenet, France.
Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of the country, Cadenet is a commune with a history spanning back to the Middle Ages, and still features plenty of vintage stone buildings and the ruins of a chateu that looks over nearby mountains.
There are also plenty of restaurants in the village’s centre, which serve all manner of local delicacies and internationally renowned dishes.
Eurocamp also recommended a trip to the Jungfrau Campsite in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland, for anyone planning a soft travel break to do some hiking or cycling.
Nestled towards the south of the country, Lauterbrunnen is built in a valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains that make it a superb destination for going walking in the countryside.
However, despite its location, the village is still well connected with the rest of the country, with cyclists able to reach the beautiful towns of Grindelwald and Interlaken in around an hour.
Finally, travellers looking to be surrounded by fresh air and nature during their time away were advised by Eurocamp to consider Domaine de Soleil Place, near Sarlat in Dordogne, France.
This camp is based on the bank of the Dordogne River, making it the ideal location to go canoeing. The area features plenty of interesting features to see from a kayak, including limestone cliffs and Medieval villages.
Tourists looking to stay dry whilst still appreciating the natural surroundings of the area can also rent an eco-quad in Sarlat, a fully-electric, open topped four wheeled vehicle that is built for heading off the beaten track.
