Huge theme park in Norway is cheap alternative to Disneyland – and 2 hours from UK | World | News
A huge theme park that’s just two hours from the UK is a cheaper alternative to Disneyland.
Hunderfossen, just north of Lillehammer in Norway, is one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions.
The park was founded in 1984 and currently has over 60 attractions, many of which are themed after or inspired by Norwegian folktales by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe.
Guarding its entrance is a 45ft troll standing in front of a 120ft fairytale castle. According to the legends, the Hunderfossen troll was petrified by the sun as he sat down in his thoughts.
Inside, visitors can meet the King and the Queen, Prince and Princess, trolls and many other odd characters from the old Norwegian folk stories.
Attractions include the folk story cave, the Fairytale Ship, the Trolldrop, Hunderfossen Rafting, a rollercoaster, a water park, a go-karting circuit, a high ropes course and a tractor track.
Also in the park are 11 eateries serving everything from tacos to slushies, 14 shops and a children’s farm.
Reviewers said that Hudderfossen is “quirky and super fun” with short queues, likely best for smaller children. People also said that it is in a beautiful setting with lots of greenery and views of surrounding hills.
Many said that they were impressed by the park’s rides, restaurants and staff with Tripadvisor reviews saying it was clean and calm.
Hunderfossen also opens in the winter months. The Winter Park offers a lot of entertainment and includes Scandinavia’s southernmost snow hotel, a beautiful ice cathedral, an ice bar, snow slides, mini snowmobiles, ATVs, radio cars and major indoor adventure attractions.
Entry tickets to the theme park cost 429 Norwegian Kr (£31) per person with over 275,000 visitors each summer. Disneyland Paris tickets are £55 for one of the two parks.
Hunderfossen theme park is a two-and-a-half-hour drive or train ride from Oslo. Flights from London to Oslo take just under two hours. There are a number of hotels in the area.
