Marvel and Sony ‘clash over Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield Spider-Man 4 return’ | Films | Entertainment
Back in 2021, Spider-Man No Way Home stormed the box office taking almost $2 billion worldwide and becoming the sixth biggest movie in history.
The Marvel blockbuster’s success was largely down to rumours paying off of former Peter Parker stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield crossing the film franchise multiverse to team up with Tom Holland’s MCU incarnation.
As Sony’s highest-grossing film ever, it’s hardly surprising that the latest rumour is that the studio is considering bringing back their legacy Spideys for the MCU’s Spider-Man 4.
This comes from respected scooper Daniel RPK, who added that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige wants a more grounded movie compared to Sony wanting it to be as big as No Way Home.
Fans have been reacting to this rumour on social media and feel the studio should focus on solo projects instead.
One fan wrote on X: “Please more grounded. Spider-Man has never needed so many multiverse films back to back to back.”
Another suggested: “Let Raimi & Maguire finish up their saga with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, ten let Webb & Garfield finish up their saga with Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man 3.”
Meanwhile, the most liked comments were, “IF Sony wants money they should just do TASM3” and “Sony just want money man”.
