New poll predicts complete Tory wipeout with Penny Mordaunt at risk of losing her seat | Politics | News

Labour would win a landslide victory if there was a general election tomorrow, according to a new mega poll.

The YouGov survey of more than 18,000 people predicted that Sir Keir Starmer‘s party would secure 403 seats, a majority of 154.

The Tories would be reduced to just 155 constituencies with the loss of 210 MPs in the dire poll for Rishi Sunak.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt and former Cabinet minister Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg are among big beasts expected to be casualties.

The poll found the Lib Dems would win 49 MPs, up from their current 11.

Meanwhile the SNP, which has faced a tumultuous year following Nicola Sturgeon’s departure and a police probe into its finances, would be down from 48 seats to just 19 north of the border.

Insurgent party Reform UK would not secure any seats despite coming second in 36 constituencies.

The seats the Nigel Farage-linked party has the second largest share of the vote are Barnsley North and Hartlepool.

Lee Anderson’s Ashfield constituency is also in the top 10 where the right-wing party is placed second.

The poll would be a worse defeat for the Tories than under Sir John Major in 1997 when 165 seats were lost.

The model is based on voting intention data from 18,761 British adults interviewed from 7-27 March.
