Rainbow Mountain should be on your bucket list says expert | Travel News | Travel

With so many natural wonders around the world, it can be difficult to decide on what to put on your own personal list of must-see destinations. But according to one of Skyscanner’s new Everywhere Agents, there is one mountain that is possibly one of the most beautiful in the world.

Basanth Sadasivan in a record-breaking traveller who has joined the Skyscanner’s Everywhere Agents team, to help holidaymakers choose exactly where to go on their next holiday. Basnath became one of the youngest people ever to visit every country in the world at just 25 years old – so he’s seen a lot of beautiful sights along the way. He says that his desire to travel was driven by a passion for “diverse cultures, exotic foods and meeting people from all walks of life”.

When asked where the number one bucket list destination would be for him, he replied with Cusco, in Peru. And one particularly stunning feature draws hundreds of thousands of people in every year.

“You can access arguably the most beautiful mountain in the world – Rainbow Mountain – from Cusco,” explained Basanth.

As you might guess from the name, Rainbow Mountain is famous for its stunning colours. According to Newperuvian.com, since 2013 more than 1,000 each day make the trek to Vinicunca, also known as the Mountain of Seven Colours or Rainbow Mountain.

The mountain is made up of an array of colourful rocks. Formed as a result of weathering, environmental conditions and sedimentary deposits, the mountain’s unique mineralogy has created a unique pattern made up of shades of gold, lavender, greens and deep reds.

Considered to be a holy site in Peru, the mountain has become a hotspot for international visitors and is now the second-most visited attraction in the Cusco region thanks to local tour operators and a flurry of Instagram posts.

Along with Rainbow Mountain, Basanth also says that Cusco is a perfect destination to visit some other legendary landmarks. “Explore the legendary Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders and try some interesting cuisines such as guinea pig,” he added.

Tourists can book tours with dedicated guides, and along the way will pass through vibrant green valleys and experience first-hand how locals live.

Your guide will explain the story of Rainbow Mountain and then the final push of your journey will take you on a hike up to a vantage point that gives you a 360-degree view of the beautiful landscape.
