The pretty market town within easy reach of some of UK’s best beaches and seaside villages | Travel News | Travel

When the summer season kicks off, it’s difficult to think about anything else than blue waves, warm sun and sandy beaches.

However, you don’t need to spend hundreds of pounds on expensive flight tickets to enjoy miles of sandy shoreline.

Cornwall is undoubtedly an incredibly sought-after summer destination with some of the most unspoilt beaches in the country.

Whether you decide to visit in the summer or a different part of the year, the peaceful yet charming town of Helston should be on your radar.

With a population of 11,546, Helston is a place where impressive heritage meets a modern community.

Boasting a lovely boating lake, the town is perfect for those looking for a slower pace.

You can hire a boat, wander the streets and admire medieval buildings, grab a coffee in one of the town’s cafés, or browse the mix of independent shops and big-name brands dotted around the high street.

Families with kids can head down to Flambards Theme Park for a fun day filled with rollercoasters.

It offers both rides for bigger kids as well as quieter attractions for families with young children.

If you plan your visit to Helston for May, you can take part in the annual Flora Day, a festival that celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring with dancing.

In April, you could catch the annual Porthleven Food Festival that takes place down on the coast just three miles outside of Helston.

However, the area is an excellent place for dining throughout the whole year.

The traditional Cornish town also has a wonderful location for those who want to enjoy as much of the county as possible, being just a stone’s throw from some of the best destinations Cornwall has to offer.

If you came for swimming or surfing, you’ll be pleased that Helston is just 2.5 miles away from pretty Porthleven Beach

There’s even a bus you could catch down to the seaside village.

Plus, the lovely beach is also packed with cafés, pubs and chip shops, where you can refuel after a long day in the water.

But that’s not all. Helston is also just a short drive from other hotspots, including Mousehole, Kynance Cove, Coverack and historic Marazion.
