World War Three fears as Israeli minister warns Iran is ‘legitimate target’ | World | News

Iran is now a “legitimate” target for missile strikes according to a top Israeli minister as fears of World War Three grow.

The country’s economy minister Nir Barkat described Tehran as “the head of the snake” adding that any missile fired by Iran would be met by one from Israel.

It comes as the country gets closer to full-scale war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon following an evacuation in the north of the country, with Barkat claiming a second war was within his country’s capabilities adding that “the threat of Hezbollah must be eliminated”.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Barkat said Palestinians from the West Bank would never be permitted to work in the country again and would be replaced by foreign workers.

He told the paper: “Iran is a legitimate target for Israel. They will not get away with it. The head of the snake is Tehran.

“My recommendation is to adopt the strategy that President Kennedy used in the Cuban missile crisis. What he basically said then was a missile from Cuba will be answered by a missile from Moscow.

“And we should very clearly make sure the Iranians understand that they will not get away with using proxies against Israel and sleep good at night if we don’t sleep good at night.

“We believe them when they say they want to destroy Israel, we are not going to allow another Holocaust.”

It comes after Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan said he and Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi agreed at a meeting on Wednesday on the need to avoid steps which could lead to further instability in the Middle East.

Turkey supports a two-state solution to the conflict calling for an immediate ceasefire and backing legal steps to try the Israeli government for genocide.

Speaking at a press conference after meeting Raisi in Ankara, Erdogan said the two had discussed ending Israel‘s “inhumane” attacks on Gaza and the steps forward for fair and lasting peace in the region.

He said: “We agreed on the importance of refraining from steps that will further threaten the security and stability of our region.”
