World’s favourite city break is a ‘feast for the senses’ – full list | Travel News | Travel
Looking to leave Europe for a holiday in 2024? A new survey from the expert team at Which? Travel might have just the answer.
The team asked more than 1,800 people to rate their experiences in cities outside of Europe to find the world’s best city break destination.
The survey judged destinations based on the quality of food and drink, tourist attractions, ease of travelling around and value for money.
So where’s the world’s best city break outside Europe?
According to the survey, Sydney is the world’s best destination for a city break. Tourists loved the Australian city’s “spectacular” scenery and “buzzing” atmosphere.
Cape Town, one of South Africa’s most exciting destinations, took second place in the ranking. Visitors loved the city’s “amazing, freshly caught” seafood and local wines.
Chicago, Kyoto and Singapore tied in third place. Chicago ranked highly for attractions and shopping while Kyoto got a five star ranking for cultural sights and attractions.
Singapore received five stars for food and drink and shopping while visitors also loved the “manicured public spaces, cleanliness and efficiency” of the city.
Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel said: “The top-rated cities in our latest survey may be wildly different, but they all have one important thing in common – they offer visitors a feast for the senses, with a fantastic array of cultural sights, excellent food and stunning scenery combining to create that undeniable ‘wow’ factor.
“Australia proved particularly popular, with sun-soaked Sydney wooing visitors with its unique mix of cosmopolitan city-life and laid-back beach vibes, which Melbourne and Perth also impressed. Chicago meanwhile offers the best of the US at a better price.”
Unfortunately for British tourists, a flight to Australia doesn’t come cheap but it might be worth it for a holiday in the world’s most popular city.
