Leicester City star Hamza Choudhury arrives at court to face drink driving allegations | Football | Sport

Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury has arrived at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court to face a charge of drink driving. The 26-year-old was pulled over by police in south Nottingham in the early hours of the morning on January 19.

Police claim that the former England U21 international refused to take a breathalyser test and that he was subsequently arrested at the scene. On January 24, he was charged with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care, and failing to cooperate with a preliminary breathalyser test.

Choudhury arrived at court on Thursday morning. He was pictured alongside his wife and placed a phone to his ear.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said at the time of the charge: “Officers pulled over a vehicle in Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, around 1.45am on Friday 19 January 2024. A man was arrested on suspicion of refusing to provide a specimen of breath.

“Hamza Choudhury, aged 26, of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, has since been charged with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test.

“He was released on unconditional bail and is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on February 23, 2024.”

Choudhury has played a prominent role for Leicester this season. The Foxes are top of the Championship after 34 games, with Choudhury making the matchday squad for every league match.

He has played in 25 second-tier games, starting nine of them. Head coach Enzo Maresca has used him in midfield and at full-back.
