Man Utd duo Marcus Rashford and Erik ten Hag ‘barely speaking’ as Belfast bender lingers | Football | Sport
Problems are continuing to mount at Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford’s relationship reportedly ‘not repaired’ since the latter skipped training after partying in Belfast. The duo are now hardly speaking, despite the issue being dealt with last month.
Rashford has struggled at United so far this season, scoring five goals in 25 Premier League appearances and failing to win over the support of many. Numerous questions have been raised about the quality of the England international as a result, with a sale an option which could be explored by Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a result.
Ten Hag is relying on Rashford for the remainder of the campaign regardless, despite his relationship with the 26-year-old causing unrest behind the scenes at the Theatre of Dreams. The pair came to a loggerheads last month after Rashford called in sick for United training just two days before his side were set to face Newport County in the FA Cup.
However, it soon emerged that the versatile forward was not actually ill. Instead, Rashford has been partying with friends until the early hours of the morning in Belfast before travelling back to Manchester.
Ten Hag demanded an apology in the following days, which he received, but the relationship has never truly recovered as the ex-Ajax boss felt he had tried to be ‘deceived’ by one of his own players. According to The Sun, the pair are ‘barely on speaking terms’ and members of staff at the club are concerned that their relationship is beyond repair.
Publicly, Ten Hag has insisted that the matter has now been resolved, but the impact of Rashford’s Belfast bender still appears to be being felt throughout the club given that the frostiness between the pair has been recognised by other individuals.
