Nearly one in three Brits would ditch their friends – to go on holiday with their mum | Travel News | Travel

Nearly a third of travellers would be willing to ditch their friends – in favour of a holiday with their mum, a study has found. The poll of 2,000 travellers found 22 percent feel they don’t spend enough quality time with their mother.

As a result, 69 percent would holiday with their mum to get more time together (71 percent), and show their appreciation for everything she’s done (48 percent).

And 59 percent would have a joint vacation to create lasting memories, while 48 percent are keen to make “mum-ventures” a new tradition.

It also emerged that exactly two-thirds of those polled cite time spent with their mum during family holidays as some of their fondest childhood memories.

The research was commissioned by London Luton Airport, which is offering limited fast-track security and complimentary lounge passes for those jetting away with a mother figure this weekend.

Clare Armstrong, head of guest experience at the airport, said: “It’s heart-warming to see 55 percent of holidaymakers want to go on adventures with their mum, whether it’s a getaway abroad or a cherished moment closer to home.

“We’re thrilled to offer travellers flying with their mums this weekend some exclusive extras to get their trip off to the best possible start, as part of our commitment to providing a simple and friendly passenger experience.”

The research also found 38 percent of those polled want to make more effort with their mum – from showing gratitude for her support (52 percent), to trying to call her more often (25 percent).

And 61 percent would go on a holiday with their mother to strengthen their bond, while 43 percent would use a trip together to reignite their relationship. In fact, 57 percent wish they could surprise their mum with a getaway this Mothering Sunday.

However, 19 percent of those polled, via OnePoll.com, claimed they put more effort into celebrating the occasion over other moments – such as Christmas, birthdays, or anniversaries.

When it comes to mum-ventures, 66 percent of travellers crave the excitement of city breaks, while 59 percent long for the relaxation of a beach getaway, and 50 percent love the indulgence of a luxury vacation.
