Royal expert blasts ‘wicked’ comments about Princess Kate: ‘Online is such a cesspit’ | Royal | News

A royal expert has lept to defence as he slammed the “online cesspit” making comments about her following her Photoshop furore.

Kate has not been seen out with the in public this year after it was confirmed she had undergone major abdominal surgery in January and would be off work until after Easter to recover.

Following nearly two months of silence online she shared a photo of her and children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to mark Mother’s Day on Sunday.

But hours later several international picture agencies were issuing notices to pull the photo over concerns it had been doctored, with Kate later admitting to editing it on Monday.

Royal author Robert Jobson has spoken out against the ongoing online saga, as he told TalkTV: “The internet has got some pretty wicked trolls out there and people who are writing quite appalling things that would not even be said in the pub.

“I actually do think that we should not necessarily be ruled by the internet and try and take some media responsibility as organisations, because online is such a wicked cesspit of comments about Kate at the moment and frankly they’re not worth repeating.”

When asked by host Rosanna Lockwood about trust in the Royal Family in the UK being “knocked”, the author responded: “I would say that’s true to a degree.

“It’s a genuine mistake. It shouldn’t have happened because it does erode trust and integrity, but I think this was just a slip-up.

“I don’t think it’s something that’s standard practice.

Kate is known to be a keen amateur photographer and often releases more informal shots of her children to mark events like their birthdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Mr Jobson said he understood the family’s desire for privacy, but admitted he felt in this case a professional snapper should have been brought in to ensure the job was done correctly.

In a statement shared on Monday the Princess said: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
