The £1.1m roadworks being carried out in Tenerife with two months of chaos for drivers | Travel News | Travel
A route to one of Tenerife‘s tourist attractions is undergoing roadworks threatening traffic misery for holidaymakers as peak season approaches.
Works have started on the TF-662 linking Guaza and Los Cristianos and are set to continue until April 24, according to island officials reported by local media. It’s the only road to Monkey Park, a small zoo near the major resort of Los Cristianos that specialises in primates.
Dámaso Arteaga, Tenerife’s roads chief, said the 1.3 million euro scheme (£1.1m) will see a complete resurfacing of the road, which runs parallel tto the TF-1 motorway.
Surface drainage work will be carried out as part of the project, with warnings of traffic disruptions. Mr Arteaga urged motorists to exercise maximum caution when on the route, which is a focus of planned safety works.
Works on routes in Arona on the TF-652 and TF-653 are also underway, according to the Canarian Weekly, at a total cost of two million euros (£1.7m).
Diversions on the TF-47 have also been introduced this week, scheduled to continue until Thursday (March 7).
Closures are set to alternate depending on the progress of the roadworks and time of day, according to the Canarian Weekly.
Motorists have been advised to plan their routes carefully and expect possible tailbacks.
The TF-47 links Adeje to coastal towns including Callao Salvaje, Marazul and Playa San Juan along Tenerife’s east coast.
It connects with routes to Playa Del Puertito De Adeje, Playa Las Galgas, El Balito and Playa Abama.
