The pretty UK seaside town with virtually no tourists as everyone’s in Skegness | UK | Travel

A peaceful little UK towncould be the perfect place for your next staycation with the majority of tourists visiting nearby Skegness instead.

The seaside town has seen its popularity rise again in recent years welcoming thousands of UK visitors to its pier and Pleasure Beach funfair, but those looking for somewhere relaxing might want to look a little further down the coast.

Just 30 minutes away, is Sutton on Sea, which features a range of independent cafes, pubs and shops.

It is also perfect for families. It has a large outdoor children’s paddling pool and play area, scenic walking routes and nature reserves.

The Lincolnshire town has even recently been named one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Live for 2024.

Sutton is also home to one of only three blue flag beaches in the region with golden sands and clear blue waters.

Those looking for amusement arcades and funfairs will be disappointed however, with none in the area, which is something the town prides itself on.

Its own tourism board says: “Although Sutton on Sea is a popular seaside destination it has retained the character of a coastal town and doesn’t have funfairs or arcades.

“Sutton is ideal for those who like a more peaceful holiday or want a restful base from which to explore the area.”

The town also holds a number of events each year including an annual carnival which sees marching bands and themed floats parade down its high street.

One visitor said the town was “lovely if the weather is fine” but warned it was “dire” in the event of rain.

A Tripadvisor review read: “Beautiful place to visit, the beach was lovely and clean, nice little cafes along the promenade. Even a beach for dogs to play.”
