Fulton Umbrellas has recommended a number of chocolate-box villages across the UK that make for the perfect destination for a peaceful staycation.

With the cost-of-living crisis leaving less money for trips abroad, a growing number of tourists are thinking about taking a holiday within the UK this year, whilst still trying to avoid large crowds.

To help travellers make a decision, Fulton Umbrellas suggested paying Cartmel in Cumbria a visit, a small village on the south edge of the Lake District.

Just a short drive away from Morecambe Bay, Cartmel features a small river running through the village and a number of stone buildings, including a 12th century church.

The company also recommended the village to any tourists looking to try some great food during their time away, with Cartmel featuring two Michelin-star restaurants and home to one of the best sticky toffee puddings in the country.

Brits looking for a staycation up in Scotland were advised by Fulton Umbrellas to take a trip to Luss, found on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Around 45 minutes away from Glasgow, Luss features a wide range of slate buildings, with independent shops and cafes that make it a great place for a stroll and a light bite to eat.

It is also a good destination for those looking to go beyond the village during their time away, with visitors able to go on a boat tour through Loch Lomond, the largest inland lake in the UK.

Wales also has a number of beautiful villages that few tourists know about, with Fulton Umbrellas suggesting Portmeirion in Gwynedd is one of the best.

Designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion took 50 years to build, being completed in 1976. However, it was certainly worth the wait, offering guests colourful buildings and a sub-tropical garden.

Tourists looking for some rest and relaxation will also appreciate the Mermaid Spa, a feature not often found in rural villages.

Finally, Fulton Umbrellas recommended Haworth in West Yorkshire for travellers looking to step back in time for a short while.

The home of the Brontë sisters, no trip to Haworth is complete without visiting the Bronte Parsonage Museum or looking around their family home, which offers hints surrounding the inspiration of their most famous stories.

Found on top of the Pennines, the village offers plenty of walks outside of it’s famous cobbled streets, meaning it is easy to find stunning panoramic views of the countryside.
