Samsung’s smart new fridge will mean you never waste any food again

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a massive buzzword in the world of technology and Samsung clearly thinks our homes are now in need of it. The Korean technology giant has just unveiled its latest batch of clever home appliances and all come powered by AI. Now, you might be thinking you don’t want a cooker that knows you’re making the Sunday roast or a washing machine that can see the weekly underwear wash is taking place but Samsung reckons its BESPOKE AI gadgets will help you save a bunch of time and money.

One of the most exciting new additions to Samsung’s lineup is the AI Family Hub fridge freezer. Not only does this food cooler feature a giant display where you can watch TV, leave virtual sticky notes and surf the web, but also clever AI which knows exactly what’s been popped inside.

An internal camera watches as food is added and removed and then uses intelligence to work out if you’ve bought some grapes or broccoli is on the menu. Samsung says that 33 fresh food items will be recognised at launch with more being added in the future.

Used by dates can also be typed in the screen with alerts telling you when things are about to go off – that should reduce the amount of things that end up in the bin.

To stop more wastage from happening, the fridge can look at what it has on its shelves and offer instant recipes.

You can also see what you have stored in the device when you are out and about via Samsung’s smartphone app – a live feed from inside the fridge is even made possible via that in-built camera.

Along with the AI Family Hub, Samsung is also launching more AI-powered appliances including another fridge that learns your routines. That means it knows the right amount of extra power to supply when the door is constantly being opened – in the morning for example. It then reduces things during the day when the things stay shut.

A new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo washing machine is also coming that can weigh the clothes inside and monitor the muck coming off them to add the right amount of water and detergent. After finishing the cycle, users can monitor how much energy and water were consumed through the report provided on the SmartThings App

Finally, there’s a smart robot vacuum, called the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo, that not only dusts floors but also mops as well. This clever cleaner features AI Floor Detect taht senses the type of floor to clean, and when carpets are detected, the robot vacuum decides whether to lift up its mop or to go and leave the mop at its station to avoid contaminating the carpet with its wet mop.

“Since the first introduction of BESPOKE in 2019, Samsung Electronics has presented to the market on how appliances can be customized to best fit each user’s home and lifestyle,” said Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics.

“Five years later, we now share our vision for AI in appliances with the products that expand the Bespoke legacy through enhanced connectivity and AI capabilities that will take the consumer experience to the next level.”
