Cop rushed to Sydney stabbing scene to discover fiancee among dead | World | News

An Australian cop called to the scene of the horror knife attack at a Sydney mall arrived to find that his fiancee was among the victims of the schizophrenic killer.

Ashley Wildey was dispatched alongside colleagues to the Westfield Mall in Bondi Junction at 3.30pm on April 13 after a man now identified as Joel Cauchi, 40, went on a murderous rampage.

Mr Wildley had just finished his shift when it was reported that the knifeman had slaughtered five women and a male security guard at the Sydney shopping centre.

Police identified Dawn Singleton, the daughter of multi-millionaire advertising tycoon John Singleton, as among Cauchi’s six victims that day.

Ms Singleton, 25, was Mr Wildey’s childhood sweetheart, and the two were engaged to be married, according to reports.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said that his fellow officers had realised Ms Singleton was among the dead when he arrived at the scene.

They said: “Ashley had arrived at Westfield when officers realised his fiancée was one of the victims.”

The couple were in the middle of planning their wedding, and had already sent out invitations, with Ms Singleton having reportedly chosen her wedding dress for the big day.

The 25-year-old, who worked at White Fox boutique, was remembered as a “sweet, kind-hearted person who had her whole life ahead of her” by her employer.

Others killed in the attack were Georgian tourist Pikria Darchia, 55, Ashlee Good, 38, the mother of a baby wounded in the attack, mall security guard Faraz Ahmed Tahir, 30, and Jade Young, 47.
