Stockport: Bomb squad called after man found dead in house | UK | News


A man has been found dead in house “with suspicious items” and a bomb squad is now on the scene.

Police have cordoned off a street in Stockport, near Manchester, after the incident that began at around lunchtime today, Monday, April 8.

Residents of Woodhall Crescent, beside Reddish Vale Country Park, have been ordered to stay indoors whilst a large emergency services presence is in the street – including police, paramedics and fire crews.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told Express.co.uk that they were initially called after a report relating to the welfare of a man which they found dead at the scene.

The spokesperson said: “Greater Manchester Police were called to Woodhall Crescent in Stockport at around midday today (Monday 8 April 2024) to a report for the concern of the welfare of a man.

“Officers attended and sadly found a man deceased at the scene which is believed to not be suspicious and next of kin have been informed.

“Whilst entering the property suspicious items were found and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) subsequently attended to inspect.

“This has now been completed and those items deemed safe.”

They added: “Enquiries on ongoing, with a cordon put in place at the time, to establish the full circumstances and ensure the safety of residents.”
