King Charles all smiles as Queen Camilla gives sweet gesture to fans outside Balmoral | Royal | News

and waved to well-wishers outside Balmoral on Sunday, having arrived at the Scottish estate on Thursday to celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary.

The couple were driving to Crathie Kirk for the Sunday morning service on His Majesty’s first visit to the country since being diagnosed with cancer.

Charles and Camilla have been spending time together resting and recuperating in between the King’s cancer treatments, which he continues to receive in London.

Seeing the King out and about has been a huge boost for the Royal Family since Princess Kate broke the news that she too is being treated for cancer in March.

He was able to attend a scaled-back Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, while the Waleses stayed away as they remained out of the spotlight.

His Majesty has been generally staying away from public-facing duties as he continues his recovery, however he is still receiving his governmental red boxes every day and holding meetings when he can.

He and Camilla arrived together at Aberdeen Airport from RAF Northolt on Thursday evening before going on to Birkhall, their home on the Scottish royal estate.

Situated seven miles away from the main castle, Birkhall is also where the couple spent their honeymoon after tying the knot on April 9, 2005.

It is not yet clear when the King will complete his treatments, however doctors have previously said his prognosis is good and Charles is said to be doing well.

If his recovery continues to progress in the right direction it is hoped he will be able to increase his public duties in time for the summer, as he is keen to attend events such as Trooping the Colour.

One insider previously told the Mail: “The idea of a monarch cloistered away just wouldn’t wash nowadays and will only create damaging speculation about His Majesty’s health.

A source added last month: “While it is too early to confirm things – and, of course, it is relatively early in His Majesty’s treatment cycle – the patient is positive, the doctors are optimistic and the treatments are incredibly sophisticated.”

Another insider believes there is good reason to be optimistic, as they told Express.co.uk last month that so far the King’s treatment is “going well”.

They added that “both doctors and patient remain positive” about the outcome, with the King travelling down to London for rounds of treatment each week while he spends most of his time at Sandringham.
