Liverpool to appoint Ruben Amorim: Premier League rival sends message | Football | Sport

Liverpool are said to be nearing the end of their search for the successor to Jurgen Klopp, as reports begin fast emerging across Europe regarding a move for Ruben Amorim.

The Sporting Lisbon coach has been attracting the attention of the elite all season, given his fierce style of play and relentless winning streak in Portuguese football.

The Reds now look set on securing the services of Amorim, after their Plan A in the form of Xabi Alonso was turned on its head, once the Spaniard confirmed his commitment to remaining in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

Now, Amorim has emerged as the favoured choice, and Liverpool will be pleased to hear that the 39-year-old has already been firmly backed by one of their Premier League rivals.

Tottenham ace Pedro Porro, who previously played under Amorim at Sporting, cannot speak highly enough of the prospective Liverpool boss.

Porro told Portuguese outlet O Jogo: “Everyone knows what a good coach he is, he does things very well, he’s a great coach.

“I wish him all the best and have nothing but good things to say about him.”

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg has this week reported Liverpool and Sporting have entered positive talks regarding Amorim’s move.

It is reported that a ‘verbal agreement’ has now been struck between the two clubs, and Amorim is understood to want the move to Merseyside despite ongoing interest from Barcelona.

A contract running until 2027 is expected to be put on the table, with performance-related incentives included.

Liverpool have also been heavily linked with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, who has proven experience already in Premier League football.

Prior to the recent match between Liverpool and Brighton at Anfield, De Zerbi caused a stir by suggesting his immediate future lay away from the AMEX Stadium.

The Italian boss is a known admirer of Pep Guardiola, and plays a similar brand of possession-heavy football to that of the Manchester City manager.

Liverpool, in contrast, have been reared on Klopp’s fast and furious pressing and counter attack play over the past nine years, leading many to believe that Amorim will be a more suitable candidate to take over at the helm.
