Meghan Markle’s three glittering blog posts and ‘what they now tell us’ seven years on | Royal | News

Meghan Markle ran a successful lifestyle blog, The Tig, during her time as an actress on Suits – but many things appeared to have changed since it was shut down in April 2017.

The Duchess of Sussex made the decision to close her blog after three years – just months before she became engaged to her now-husband, Prince Harry.

The Tig, which was cleverly named after the former actress’s favourite wine, Tignanello, consisted of everything from food to travel content.

Meghan left fans with a farewell message, which read: “…After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity…”

Here looks back on three blog posts from The Tig and “what they now tell us”.

Meghan documented many happy memories with her now-estranged father, Thomas Markle on her now-defunct blog. One year, for Father’s Day, Meghan paid tribute to her father and reminisced about their time together as a young girl.

In the post, Meghan wrote: “Our club sandwich and fruit smoothie tradition post my tap and ballet class – classes, which by the way, he religiously took me to on Saturday mornings after working 75+ hours a week as a lighting director.”

Recalling how committed her father was to ensuring she had the best childhood, Meghan praised him for the “blood, sweat and tears” that he invested in her future.

To conclude, Meghan wrote: “To my dad – my thoughtful, inspiring, hardworking Daddy – Happy Father’s Day. ‘If I had all the water in the world, I’d give all the water to you…’ (You won’t get that quote, but he will. And for Father’s Day, that’s all that matters).”

Meghan reportedly has not spoken to her father since 2018 – prior to her wedding day to Prince Harry. Thomas Markle has since spoken out about his daughter, with him stating his hopes to reunite with her and meet his two grandchildren, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two.

Meghan previously claimed to know very little about the Royal Family, but seemingly wrote about the 2011 wedding of the now-Prince and Princess of Wales on her blog. In a 2014 blog post, Meghan made a scathing reference to “grown women” who entertain “childhood fantasies” about fairytale princesses.

Noting the “endless conversation” about the royal wedding, Meghan reflected on the “pomp and circumstance” of the wedding of “Princess Kate”.

She wrote: “Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power. For those of you unfamiliar with the 80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength. We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here.

“Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become estranged from the Royal Family over the past few years, particularly since stepping down as working royals at the start of 2020.

Whilst living in Toronto, Meghan developed a close friendship with stylist, Jessica Mulroney.

After meeting on the set of Suits, where Meghan played the character of Rachel Zane, the pair became firm friends.

Praising Jessica in a blog post from 2015, Meghan wrote: “She’s savvy and fashionable and très cool, and also va va va voom pritaaaaay. And here’s the other thing – she also happens to be an incredible stylist, clothing the likes of Canada’s First Lady, Sophie Trudeau.”

The women remained close for years, with Jessica even attending her wedding to Harry in 2018. Following the wedding, Jessica even took to Instagram to post several pictures from the royal wedding, with the caption: “Proud friend. Proud mom.”

However, in 2020, the pair’s friendship appeared to deteriorate after Jessica was criticised by a blogger named Sasha Exeter for apparent comments about the Black Lives Movement. Jessica issued three apologies and was later dropped by a number of television networks, including Good Morning America.
