Picture shows mum on her wedding day before husband ‘killed her in front of baby’ | UK | News
A heartbreaking picture shows a mum on her wedding day before her husband allegedly stabbed her to death as she pushed a pram.
Kulsuma Akter, 27, was knifed multiple times in front of her child in Bradford on Saturday, April 6.
Husband Habibur Masum, 25, was arrested after a three-day manhunt after reportedly being tracked down to an Asda carpark in Aylesbury on Monday evening. He has now been charged with murder.
Masum was also charged with possession of a bladed article and appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court today where he was remanded into custody.
The picture shows Kulsuma on her wedding day and The Sun reports they had an arranged marriage. It’s believed the ceremony took place in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Kulsuma’s mum has paid tribute to her daughter.
She said: “I am still in shock, my heart is broken, she was my youngest daughter and I adored her greatly.
“She looked after me when my eldest daughter was married and she would get my medicine and do everything for me.
“When she moved to the United Kingdom I was alone but Kulsuma would call me every day by video – the only day I didn’t hear from her was the day she was attacked,” reports MailOnline.
An insider revealed that police nabbed Masum after swarming his car following a tip off from medical staff who said he’d gone to hospital for treatment.
Masum was reportedly 180miles away from where Kulsuma was killed, in an Asda carpark waiting for medical help.
The insider said: “The suspect had travelled all the way down to Stoke Mandeville Hospital and had parked up in an Asda car park late on Monday night.
“He walked over to the A&E ward complaining of lockjaw and not being able to open his mouth properly. He was in a fair bit of pain.
“However, at some point he was recognised by someone at the hospital who called the police,” reports MailOnline.
The insider said after he’d gone back to the car officers swarmed it before arresting him.
Every police force in the country had been tasked with finding suspect Masum after the horrific stabbing of the mum in the Westgate area of the city.
He allegedly chatted to the mum in the street for five minutes, before allegedly pulling out a knife and stabbing her in the neck around five times.
Police confirmed the baby was not harmed in the attack.
It was later revealed that the suspect Masum was facing trial for allegedly threatening to kill her – forcing a police force to refer itself for investigation.
Detective Superintendent Jude Holmes from Greater Manchester Police Oldham district said: “We share the shock and concern that our communities feel in the wake of this tragic incident, and our thoughts are with Kulsuma Akter’s family at this truly distressing time.
“Habibur Masum is wanted by West Yorkshire Police on suspicion of murder. Due to his links to Greater Manchester, we have our specialist officers following several lines of enquiry to locate him.”
“I urge members of the public to remain vigilant, and if you have any information on his whereabouts, call 999 as a matter of urgency.
“Due to previous police contact with Habibur Masum and Kulsuma Akter, Greater Manchester Police has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct,” reports The Sun.
