Real reason James Wessex will never become a working royal | Royal | News

King Charles has often spoken about his decision to “slim down” the monarchy and to have fewer working royals, but with the monarch out of action from public-facing duties because of his cancer diagnosis, and the Princess of Wales similarly out of action to continue with her cancer treatment – the Royal Family is thin on the ground.

While there are many popular members of the family who would surely be ready to take up the strain, the next generation of young royals is quickly growing up.

A royal expert has spoken to OK! Magazine, about why the Duke of Edinburgh’s son, James, Earl of Wessex, is not likely to step up to the role. This is due to the fact Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie have tried very hard to give him a “normal upbringing”.

Former BBC Correspondent, Jennie Bond explained: “James is currently gearing up for the first big test of his school life….his GCSEs. Like most 16-year-olds, it’s a tough time for him – although it’s unlikely that his results will be made public. That’s in tune with the rest of his upbringing where his parents have tried very hard to allow James as normal an upbringing as possible – given his heritage.”

James’s sister, Lady Louise, 20, is currently studying at St Andrew’s University in Scotland, – the same establishment where Prince William and Princess Kate first met.

Jennie believes James will also attend University when he is older. She said: “I think we can expect James to follow his ambitions and not necessarily take the traditional royal route of military service. He will probably try for University and then work out a career path.”

The former royal BBC correspondent, also thinks James will look to his cousins Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall for a shining example of royals who have “made their own way”.

She added: “It’s highly unlikely that James will ever use his HRH and he will not inherit the Dukedom of Edinburgh. That all guarantees him a sense of freedom that royalty ‘with all the bells on’ makes very difficult.”
