The pretty UK seaside town with the ‘best’ crab and traditional pier | Travel News | Travel

The charming seaside town of Cromer in Norfolk, complete with a traditional pier and a renowned restaurant serving the ‘best’ crab, is an ideal destination for those considering a staycation. When the sun is shining, there’s nothing better than a trip to the beach, and Cromer offers a delightful British alternative to European destinations.

The resort provides visitors with all the elements of a classic seaside holiday – quaint coastal streets, independent shops, sandy beaches, delectable seafood, and even a piece of Banksy artwork.

The town’s vibrant streets are filled with unique cafes, restaurants, and shops, each brimming with character. According to the town’s website, there’s only one chain store, so you could spend an entire day exploring the independent shopping and dining options.

The town extends right up to the seafront, making it easy for anyone wanting to sunbathe or swim to simply stroll down to the beach. The traditional pier, which features a variety of attractions including a theatre that hosts shows throughout the year, extends out into the water.

On the beach, you can spot Banksy’s delightful stencil of a hermit crab advertising luxury rentals. If this sparks a craving for seafood, Cromer is the perfect place to satisfy it.

Look out for restaurants serving the famous Cromer crab, renowned nationwide for its sweet and delicate flavour. The Crab Pot Cafe, rated highest on Tripadvisor, is one of several popular spots to enjoy this local delicacy, with The Old Rock Shop Bistro and Hot Rocks also receiving high praise.

After lunch, continue exploring the town’s numerous art galleries and craft shops. If you’re planning an overnight stay, Cromer offers a range of accommodation options, from campsites and caravan parks to self-catering holiday homes, B&Bs, pubs with rooms and hotels.

The Cliftonville Hotel boasts a 4.5-star rating on Google, while TripAdvisor rates The Grove as one of the best value places to stay in Cromer.

One tourist who dined at the Crab Pot Cafe wrote on TripAdvisor: “Our first time of having the legendary Cromer Crab and it was fabulous! I opted for the salad, lovely new potatoes and a choice of dressings for the salad, my partner had the baguette. Lovely friendly staff, fabulous food and reasonably priced. Highly recommended and would definitely go again when visiting. Great selection on menu of breakfast and lunch options.”

A second added: “Went here for lunch today and had a delicious crab sandwich with a good cuppa. Excellent place, friendly smiling staff, absolutely delicious food and very reasonable priced. I can recommend this lovely little cafe in Cromer, it didn’t disappoint and I doubt it will you either.”

A third chimed in: “Whilst in Cromer you have to have crab, found ourselves in a small independent cafe, ordered the crab baguette very tasty with a balsamic ladened salad very filling, washed down with a pot of tea. Would come back again and very much would recommend.”
